UNTV Cup 2: Philhealth Gains Solo Lead, DOJ Avengers Sags In The Tourney

The Philhealth Advocates clenched solo lead in the team standings with the record of 4 wins no losses, after defeating the House of Representatives Solons, 81-75, at the elimination rounds of UNTV Cup Season 2 on March 23 at the Ynares Sports Arena.

Meanwhile, HOR solons fell short in its quest to sweep a win on their three matches.

Solons penetrated and scored a point lead over Philhealth at the last 3 minutes of the game, 70-69, with impressive fastbreak plays done by the team’s reinforcement player Gerald Francisco and Palawan 1st District Congressman Franz Alvarez, tallying a total score of 19 points.

However, Philhealth slashed Solons lead through Rey Tagupa’s candid jump shots. Once again, Jason Alfeche was heralded Best Player of the Game who bombed 20 points away, with 3 assists and 4 steals.

In the second game, the LGU Vanguards stormed DOJ Avengers with 33 points advantage, 102-69.

DOJ Avengers faced grueling situation of losing their key players Paul Gerald Reguerra, Denver Christian Lacanilao and Rosauro Dantis who were on an important duty. Avengers flopped in the league feat no win after four games.

On the other side, Francisco Adriano led the Local Government Units by scoring 24 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. While, Celebrity Player Ervic Vijandre has drove 14 pts, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

In the final ballgame, PNP Responders erupted 40-pt lead against Senate Defenders, 93-53.

Team Senate struggled without Captain Marbel Kenneth Duremdes in the ballgame and with the early game quit of Ex-PBA player Zaldy Realubit due to leg cramps. Coach Lino Ong knocked the ballgame and hit 5 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist for the team.

Philippine National Police marked 3 wins and 1 loss, however, Team Senate fell to a 1-3 win-loss record.
