MCGI and UNTV Saves Lives with a Nationwide Bloodletting Campaign
The Members Church of God International (MCGI) and UNTV-Your Public Service Channel, in collaboration with the Philippine Blood Center and Philippine Red Cross, successfully held yet another nationwide simultaneous mass bloodletting last March 16, 2014.
This countrywide humanitarian activity was held in almost fifty MCGI Coordinating Centers and with approximately two thousand blood bags collected to once again help patients in need of blood transfusions.
According to the Department of Health, a blood bag contains three essential components – plasma, pack red blood cells and platelets which can prolong life of three people who can benefit from it.
More Filipinos To Roll Their Sleeves Up
This public service initiative of MCGI and UNTV, spearheaded by MCGI Presiding Minister Bro. Eli Soriano and BMPI-UNTV Chairman and CEO Kuya Daniel Razon, is a continuing effort held quarterly to supply the inadequate stream of blood in the country.
Dr Melvin Katabang from the Department of Health said, “Kulang pa po ang blood volunteer sa Pilipinas yearly. Di pa po natin nakukuha ang target na 1% of the population.” (We still do not have enough blood volunteers in the Philippines yearly. We have not yet targeted 1% of the population.)
“Dapat 1 million Filipinos ang nagdo-donate ng blood regularly every year.”, he added. (1 Million Filipinos should donate blood regularly every year.)
“Ang Dating Daan regular po every 3 months nagpapa-blood donation activity sa amin sa Philippine Blood Center sa iba iba ninyong kapilya. Tuwang tuwa po kami kasi regular may malilinis na dugo kaming nakukuha at nababahagi sa libo libong kababayan na nangangailangan ng dugo”, Katabang blissfully said. (The Old Path regularly conducted Blood Donation Drive every 3 months in the Philippine Blood Center and on their different chapters. We were glad because we have a regular supply of clean blood that we dispense to thousands of fellow citizens who needs it.)
Michael Arellano, a regular blood donor exudes, “Sabi ni Bro Daniel lahat ng bagay na alam mong mabuti gawin mo agad. Ito po siguro iyong isang paraan na makatulong ako sa ibang tao.” (Bro Daniel said all the good things you are aware of doing, do it immediately. Maybe this is the way that I can help other people.)
Nanay Lucy Ibe is one of the many people who is afraid to donate blood. Until, situation came that her mother needs blood transfusion. “Wala sa amin naglakas loob na magdonate. Ang nag-donate sa mother ko noon iyong doctor at attendant. Kaya noong nagkaroon ng panawagan naglakas loob ako sabi ko pwede pala ako. Kaya iyon naging regular na siya.” (None of us dared to donate. Previously, the doctor and the attendant donated blood for my mother. So, when an invitation came, I plucked up the courage and realized that I can be [a donor]. Now, I am doing it regularly.)
Claire Kintanar is a 16-year old blood recipient. She struggled with hypertensive disease since her childhood days and later resulted to a kidney failure. She tussle into this disease for two years now and underwent almost three dialysis sessions each week. She ecstatically said, “Nagpapasalamat po ako sa UNTV at kay Bro. Eli sa tulong na ibinigay ninyo po at sa Mass Blood Letting. Madami po kayong natutulungan lalo na mga kidney patients.” (I thank UNTV and Bro Eli for the help you provide and for the Mass Bloodletting activity. You have helped many, especially the kidney patients.)
“Nagpapasalamat din po ako sa lahat ng nagdo-donate sa Dating Daan at members nito.”, she added. (I am also grateful to all the blood donors and to members of The Old Path)
A special word of thanks from Nenita Fresnido on behalf of his husband who is a blood recipient. “Nagpapasalamat ako kasi napakalaki ng naitulong ni Bro. Eli sa asawa ko. Kapag nangangailangan kami ng dugo binibigyan nila agad kami.” (I am immensely grateful because Bro Eli has helped my husband. They are quick to give us blood whenever we need it.)
