AFP takes home first victory vs. DOJ on UNTV Cup Opening
Team AFP took home the first victory against DOJ during UNTV Cup’s grand opening at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum last July 29. The match was the first elimination game of the league’s first season.
AFP won the game with a huge 46 points lead, 117-71. DOJ tried to catch up the score during the four quarters but AFP gave a very slim chance.
UNTV Cup is Philippines’ first basketball-charity league conceptualized by Kuya Daniel Razon initiated through UNTV. The first season will run until November where seven public servants teams will vie for one million pesos and five hundred thousand pesos for their chosen charitable institution.
Teams to compete in the round-robin elimination include Judiciary (Supreme Court), Department of Justice, PhilHealth, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Metro Manila Development Authority, Congress and local Government Units, and Philippine National Police.
Mr. Gerry Panghulan, Vice President for Operations of Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI) and UNTV managed the league. Fortunato “Atoy” Co, former PBA star, serves as the commissioner with Mr. Ed Cordero as assistant commissioner.
