A Trip down the Memory Lane
There are a lot of people who didn’t know that ASOP Music Festival has been around since 2004. “A Song of Praise Music Festival” was conceptualized by Bro. Eli Soriano of Members Church of God International. Before its television appearance in September last year, ASOP was aimed at encouraging composers inside the organization to create praise songs for God.
At the ASOP concert last August 2011, Bro. Eli and Kuya Daniel Razon launched ASOP TV to inspire song writers – both professional and amateur – compose songs of praise and thanksgiving to the Creator.
Contestants compete weekly for the monthly finals until 12 finalists remain to compete for the title “Song of the Year”.
All for God’s glory – this has been the core focus and goal of ASOP song writing competitions.
The Birth of ASOP Music Festival in Philippine TV
It was year 2011 when Bro. Eli and Kuya Daniel decided to open ASOP Music Festival to the public; hence, the birth of a praise song writing contest in Philippine Television. ASOP TV was launched in a form of a concert on August 22, 2011 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. It was a kick-off event that was graced by professional and popular singers who interpreted MCGI’s ASOP “Song of the Year” winners from 2004.
ASOP TV then started airing on September 4, 2011 on UNTV hosted by Richard Reynoso and Toni Rose Gayda. Since then, flocks of lyricists – both aspirants and veterans in the music industry bestowed interest and inspiration to create musical treats that invigorates the soul. Guest judges for ASOP’s weekly and monthly finals never failed to be amazed and inspired by the songs interpreted by different talented OPM singers.
ASOP Music Festival airs every Sunday at 7p.m. on UNTV with live web streaming via http://untvweb.com.
