Manibela Academy to teach driving and livelihood programs for free
QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES – As part of the newest projects and programs of UNTV on its 8th year in public service, Manibela Academy was inaugurated on Tuesday, July 24 to teach technical skills and livelihood programs to Filipino drivers nationwide.
Every year, road accidents continuously increase causing damage to properties and mortality. To help lessen road accidents from occurring, the public service motoring show, Manibela, launched its mobile driving school. Manibela Academy was conceptualized by Philippine Television’s Mr. Public Service, Daniel Razon and was materialized with the help of Members Church of God International (MCGI) presided to by Bro. Eli Soriano and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
A mobile school, Manibela Academy will travel to different areas of the Philippines to teach PUV drivers on road safety and basic automotive repairs.
It was late last year when TESDA and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) signed a memorandum of agreement to assess and certify the country’s PUV drivers, in order to mandatorily upgrade the skills of Filipino drivers. Under the agreement, LTFRB requires all PUV drivers to secure a Driving National Certificate III from TESDA. TESDA Secretary Joel Villanueva said the joint program targets to certify all PUV drivers on or before 2013, the deadline set by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC). Manibela Academy will help prepare PUV drivers for this certification.
Aside from road safety, automotive and mechanical repair trainings for drivers, the mobile driving school will also go to different barangays to teach livelihood programs such as basic massage therapy, haircutting, and other TESDA-accredited skill courses to Filipinos.
Kuya Daniel’s motoring show, Manibela, airs every Friday at 4:30 PM and reruns every Sunday at 5:00 PM on UNTV, Your Public Service Channel. You may visit Manibela’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/kuya.manibela. (Written by Stacey Tee)
