Stars, Politicians, other Personalities Unite for Unity Run

Famous personalities from media, politics, showbiz and the private sector will unite on January 22, 2012 to support Kuya Daniel Razon‘s Kahit Isang Araw Lang Unity Run, a nationwide simultaneous run for the benefit of Department of Education’s (DepEd) Adopt-a-School program.

Kahit Isang Araw Lang Unity, Daniel Razon
Armin Luistro, DepEd Secretary, recalls his surprise when he received Kuya Daniel’s proposal for a nationwide run only days after their casual talk about the challenges confronting the country’s education system. In his message of support, he is most greatful for bringing this concept to reality.
This year’s run is the latest in the slew of meaningful public service projects for education, most notably last year the 2010’s Isang Araw Lang: Takbo para sa Libreng Kolehiyo which gathered more than 50,000 participants for free college education. La Verdad Christian College then opened after four months, and currently more than 700 students enjoy free tuition and miscellaneous fees, books, uniforms and meals. As a result, heads of colleges and universities such as FEATI University President Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez actively encourage their students to participate in this run for a good cause.

Public Servant Support

Kahit Isang Araw Lang already transformed from being an open invitation to do good to others and a catchphrase for Mr. Public Service’s diverse initiatives to being a guiding principle that moves and inspires celebrities-cum-public servants and fellow Unity Run partners Daisy Reyes of Pateros, Monsour Del Rosario of Makati City, and Quezon City’s Gary Estrada.

Pateros Mayor Joey Medina and Taytay, Rizal Mayor George Gacula urged the public’s participation for the run as it will help build computer classrooms for public schools all over the Philippines.

The run also attracted the attention of famous sports and media personalities such as six-time world bowling champion Paeng Nepomuceno, radio celebrities Pakito Jones and Sir Rex and action star and Optical Media Board chairman Ronnie Rickets.

Nationwide support

Kahit Isang Araw Lang Unity Run has been positively received not only in Metro Manila, where the bulk of the expected 200,000 runners will be converging, but also in key locations in Bacolod, Butuan, Cebu, Davao, Palawan, and Tacloban, where local government officials and private organizations strongly back the event.
