Kuya Daniel, UNTV programs score for Anak TV Awards
Despite their non-commercial formats, UNTV shows were highly commended by the Anak TV foundation in eight of its shows.
Awarded recently were two of Kuya Daniel Razon‘s programs, Good Morning Kuya and Munting Pangarap. On the other hand, other UNTV shows given honors were Kaagapay, Bread N’ Butter, Doc on TV, Sports37, Istorya, and Serbisyo Publiko.
The Anak TV Foundation (Southeast Asian Foundation for Children and Television) aims to promote media literacy for young viewers through child-sensitive and family-friendly TV programs in the country. Organized in 1997, its seal is an emblem that signifies programs to have contents that promote good morals benefitting young viewers.
Leading the UNTV pack of eight programs on the awards night of December 8, 2009 at the Soka Gakkai Auditorium in Quezon City was Good Morning Kuya (GMK). This is an almost 5-hour public service program hosted in the morning by Daniel Razon, UNTV executive. Through GMK, the free-service projects of Razon that cater to the public, are being materialized. Razon is known for his Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) movement that encourages every public servant to donate even just a day for genuine service to the community.
The show’s setting is such that it is low-key, with an appeal to the masses with its barangay-like atmosphere, given its pondahan segment. Pondahan in this set-up is a sari-sari store with a public plaza where people gather and talk about the affairs of the day from politics to day-to-day concerns. After amenities, they sing a song that comes out more like an editorial of the day, touching on talk-of-the-town issues in the hope that there will be changes.
Incorporated in the program is the one-and-a-half hour straight news, Hataw Balita that Razon himself anchors along with colleague Aida Gonzales.
GMK that airs every Monday to Friday, 4:45 AM to 9:00 AM, has already been awarded by several award-giving bodies prior to the Anak TV Awards.
A program with the same objective of helping the less fortunate in the country is Kaagapay hosted by Annie Rentoy, Dr. Manny Saguin, and Rolly Gonzallo. The program continuously delivers the diverse public-services of Razon such as the medical-dental mission being brought to various parts of the country through Kilos ni Kuya Daniel project. The free services of the program extend up to fellow countrymen detained in jails. This is aired in the station every Monday to Friday, 4:30 PM.
In-line with the public-service shows of UNTV is another Anak TV Seal awarded program, Munting Pangarap, hosted as well by Daniel Razon. The show’s format is about granting the wishes or requests of the poor Filipino citizens in their destitute state. It is being aired every Tuesday, 7:00 PM
Incumbent Anak TV Foundation President Bob Del Rosario said that there were a total of 54 TV programs including 8 of UNTV programs recognized by the Foundation that had awarded their seal.
Bread N’ Butter, a livelihood magazine program that is hosted by Arlene Razon, Kitt Meily, and Rodel Flordeliz, is also an Anak TV Seal Awarded show of UNTV. Bread N’ Butter gives tips in business, job-hunting, and practical lifestyle. The show airs every Friday, 5:30 PM.
A medical-oriented show, Doc on TV, discusses issues and information regarding medical and health matters. This is hosted by Dr. Edwin Bien and Rhea Horilleno every Sunday, 7 AM and is another UNTV Anak TV Seal awarded show.
