Daniel Razon plans to revive Student Canteen (PEP.PH)

PEP.PH, the popular online entertainment portal, recently posted an article by Nonie Nicasio about Kuya Daniel Razon’s plans to revive the popular  noontime show Student Canteen hosted by former senator Eddie Ilarde.

Kuya Daniel said in the PEP interview that –

Ang UNTV ay public service channel talaga at doon ang thrust namin, pero we want to come up with a noontime show.

Pahabol pa ni Daniel (na creative consultant ng UNTV at host ng Good Morning Kuya na napapanood Mondays to Fridays, 4:45 – 9:00 am), “We’re just starting para sa plan for the revival of Student Canteen. Sincee we will be putting up yung free collage namin ng Mass Com at Nursing para sa indigents, gusto kong ma-enhance sa ganoong aspeto.”

“We are hoping before the year ends, na masisimulan na ito.

Kuya Daniel revealed more public service projects that he plan to launch, particularly in helping media men.

“May isa pa nga sana kaming project, na isang housing project naman.  And Actually po, hindi lang ito pang entertainment press, kundi in general.

So read it all about it! (We will upload the translated version soon.)

From Tempo Online, the excerpts came from the report by entertainment columnist Nestor Cuartero about the dinner-interview he had with Kuya Daniel Razon.

THROUGHOUT the dinner, held at a brand-new snazzy bar on the Tomas Morato stretch merely a stone’s throw away from his old home, ABS-CBN, broadcaster and service provider Daniel Razon kept repeating, ‘This is nothing but a simple dinner. Wala itong ibang agenda.’

Razon, who prefers to be called Mr. Public Service, said he wanted to launch a regular medical mission for the benefit of distressed media workers. He expressed sadness over the fate of some old friends of his who, out of poverty, could not avail of medical services in their old age, or when they had ceased being productive.

He said the medical-dental mission he had in mind could be conducted weekly at the UNTV premises at 907 EDSA near Quezon Avenue. Razon hosts the daily morning show, ‘Good Morning’, Kuya on the cable network.

The show, produced in cooperation with ‘Ang Dating Daan’, holds daily medical missions where a low of 300 people to a high of 600 ask for help daily. Razon said, ‘If I can help these people regularly, why can I not do the same to my media friends?’

During the dinner, Razon downplayed speculations he might be doing all this in preparation for a bigger role as a public servant. He issued, however, two other important announcements.

First, in cooperation with Bro. Eli Soriano, he will put up a free college offering Nursing and Mass Communication to poor but deserving students. The college building is currently being constructed along EDSA, Quezon City.

Second, UNTV is laying the groundwork for the revival of ‘Student Canteen’, the most popular noontime variety show in the 50s and 60s, which made a comeback in the mid-70s. Razon said he has gotten the blessings of Eddie Ilarde, the lone living stalwart of the program.

From Pilipino Star Ngayon, Sanga-Sangandila columnist Veronica R. Samio, on April 1, 2009 posted this news about Kuya Daniel Razon.

All My Life, Songs of Love by Kuya Daniel Razon.

Kuya Daniel is truly a servant of God and a servant to Humanity by giving Public Service to our fellowmen in all walks of life.

Student Canteen is the first and original, longest-running noontime show on Philippine television which ran for 30 years in different decades. The show ran in different networks from 1957-1972, 1972-1986, and 1986-1990.

I believe that this noontime show will be successful in the near future, specially so, when it will be managed by Kuya Daniel thru the facilities of UNTV.

For a show that gives importance to Public Service, it was a wonderful idea!

In this time of economic crisis, where can you find someone like this that will think for benefit of the needy?

Go for it, KUYA, Mr. Daniel Razon and company!
